Sullivan County is a richly historic area in West Central New Hampshire named after Brigadier General John Sullivan, an American Revolutionary War hero. Established in 1827, Sullivan County had previously been part of Cheshire County and saw Newport chosen as its county seat. This prosperous county covers 528 square miles, making it home to various towns and the city of Claremont. Fourteen towns (Acworth, Charlestown, Cornish, Croydon, Goshen, Grantham, Langdon, Lempster, Newport, Plainfield, Springfield, Sunapee, Unity, and Washington), and one city (Claremont), Sullivan is brimming with culture and character thanks to its famous namesake General Sullivan.
